You meet the boat at the Emu Bay jetty or the Bay of Shoals boat ramp. Kangaroo Island Marine Adventures texts you the day before to confirm which.
Out on the water, the dolphin swim specialist guides look for wild dolphins. Once they find them, you pull on a wetsuit and snorkel gear and get in. Swims are always in safe, shallow waters and a hydrophone lets you listen to the dolphins from the boat.
The coast is part of the trip. You may see seals, sea eagles and osprey from the boat, and the guides point out fossil beds and talk through the history of Kangaroo Island. Wetsuits and snorkelling gear are provided, and you’re welcome to bring your own. Tea, coffee and biscuits are on board. Bring a water bottle and any other food you want.
There are no change rooms at either departure point, so wear your swimmers under your clothes. Bay of Shoals has a toilet at the boat ramp. At Emu Bay, the nearest toilets are about 300 metres from the jetty, at the playground and barbecue area.
Children 13 and under are welcome and priced separately. Shared tours join other guests. A private tour needs at least eight people, up to 15.
The season closes for winter from 1 June to 31 August. Tell us your date and how many of you are coming, and we’ll put your request to Kangaroo Island Marine Adventures, then confirm once it’s locked in.
The Fig Tree (lunch only)
An experience like no other, this restaurant is built into a fig tree more than a century old, and a two minute drive from your pod. The canopy comes down around you, and lunch happens inside the leaves.
Chef and owner John Stamatakis cooks a set menu of Mediterranean-inspired feast over wood fire, built on local produce. It’s a long table meal, made for taking your time over.
Sittings are $147pp, drinks on consumption.
The tree sets the season for the restaurant as it carries leaves for about six months of the year. Bookings are essential. Tell us your date and party size, and we’ll put your request to the restaurant, then confirm back to you once it’s locked in.
La Baracca (Friday dinner)
La Baracca means “the shed”. On Friday nights, dinner moves into its shearing shed just next to the Fig Tree, a century-old building on the same property.
Dinner is a set menu. Think native cuts and coastal flavours thrown over wood-fired grills, kissed by charcoal hibachi flames, or puffing up in the pizza oven.
Sittings are $95pp, drinks on consumption.
La Baracca follows the same opening season as the Fig Tree and bookings are essential.

Head out along Kangaroo Island's rugged north-west coast aboard Radikal, an eight-metre Zodiac, for a full day on the water. This stretch is largely left alone, and you go as a citizen scientist rather than a spectator: helping to document the wildlife, and learning the geology and the conservation work underway as you go.
Weather permitting, you'll snorkel the shallow reefs, where you might meet Australian sea-lions, long-nosed fur seals, dolphins, and the Western Blue Groper. The 5 and a half hour day is capped at eight guests, with a lunch and afternoon tea of local produce somewhere in the middle of it.
A full day on the water. Part expedition, part contribution, on one of the wildest parts of the island.

Kangaroo Island Spirits has been distilling on the island since 2006 and describes itself as Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery.
Distilling gin from island botanicals, the cellar door is where you taste it. In about 45 minutes you’ll try the distillery’s gins and hear how they’re made, from a dry gin built on native coastal daisy to a wild gin made with hand-picked wild juniper.
The cellar door is set in gardens planted with native botanicals, and it’s open every day. Choose your date and time when you book.
Your phone gives you a clue, not an itinerary. Follow it to Kangaroo Island Providore first, then on from there — each stop run by someone who made what they're handing you. Solve the last clue and you're done. A picnic spot with a view, and the rest of the afternoon is yours.
Stay exactly where you are. A local massage therapist comes to your WanderPod for either a 90 minute massage or an hour's massage each for couples. No drive, no waiting room, no leaving the deck you've settled into. The island does the rest: the wind through the grass, the sea somewhere below, the pod's own quiet. The week goes out of your shoulders, and when it's done, you're already home for the evening.

> The Pantry Box brings together Kangaroo Island and South Australian producers: growers, makers, bakers, chosen for what they put on the table and the care they put into making it. The island has always grown and made its own. A remote place, a small community of producers, and food that tastes of exactly where it came from. The honey, garlic salt and potatoes are local standouts.
>
> Add the Taste of the Island Pantry Box to your booking on an Inclusive rate, or add it on closer to your stay, and the island's produce is yours. Picked in season, brought together from local growers, waiting in your pod when you arrive and ready to cook. Eat well, and know the money goes back to the growers and the island communities they hold up.

Every WanderPod has a kitchen built for a proper meal — a gas cooktop, oven, sink, full fridge, dishwasher and BBQ. Olive oil, salt and pepper are already on the bench.
The pods run on the power and water they gather and store themselves, so high-draw appliances such as microwave and toaster are not included. Everything in the box is chosen to cook well without them.
